How we collect, use, and protect your data when you use the Postfolio web app, browser extension, and website.
This Privacy Policy describes how Postfolio ("we," "us," or "our") handles your personal information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and giving you clear choices about how your data is used.
1. Information We Collect
The types of information we collect depend on how you interact with our Services.
Account Information
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored in hashed format). You may also create a username and optionally add a profile photo, biography, favorite topics, and social media links. We store your subscription tier and post count.
Content You Save
When you save content via the web app or browser extension we collect:
- The URL and title of the page
- Notes or descriptions you add (including rich text)
- Thumbnails, uploaded images, or extension screenshots
- Source platform, categories, and timestamps
- Privacy, favorite, and archive settings
Browser Extension Data
Authentication — the extension securely retrieves a session token and user ID from the Postfolio web app.
Content capture — when you save, it reads the current page URL, title, and potential thumbnail URLs.
Screenshots & uploads — the "Select Area" and "Capture Visible Area" features create images that are sent to your account as part of the saved content.
Local storage — used temporarily to hold a captured image if the popup closes, or to store a return URL during login.
Usage Information
We collect data about how you use the Services—features used, actions taken, browser type, device type, operating system, and IP address—to sync content across your devices and improve the product.
Communications
When you contact support or provide feedback we collect the information you share (e.g., your email address and query content).
Payment Information
Payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., Paddle, Stripe). We never store full credit-card details. We may receive transaction confirmations, subscription status, and partial card info (last four digits).
2. How We Use Your Information
Provide & improve the service — account management, content organization, device syncing, and sharing features.
Personalize your experience — customize content and features based on your preferences.
Communicate with you — support responses, service announcements, and promotional updates per your preferences.
Analytics & research — understand usage trends and improve the product using aggregated, anonymized data.
Process payments — facilitate subscription transactions through our payment processors.
Enforce terms & comply with law — enforce our Terms of Service and meet legal obligations.
Security — protect the integrity of our Services, users, and business.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information.
Public Content
Content you set to "public" (URL, title, description, thumbnail) will be visible to others. You control the privacy setting.
Service Providers
We share data with trusted third parties that help us operate—cloud hosting (Supabase, Google Cloud, AWS), authentication (Supabase Auth), payment processing, analytics (Google Analytics), and customer support tools. They are contractually restricted to using your data only to provide services for us.
Aggregated Data
We may share de-identified, aggregated information that cannot identify you for analytics, research, and reporting.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights and safety of Postfolio, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred subject to standard confidentiality arrangements.
4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, remember preferences, and gather analytics.
Necessary — essential for login sessions and core functionality.
Preference — remember your settings (e.g., language).
Analytics — help us understand usage patterns (e.g., Google Analytics).
Most browsers accept cookies by default. You can adjust your browser settings to decline them, though some features may not work correctly. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. When no longer needed we securely delete or anonymize it.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards—including robust infrastructure from Supabase—to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, and misuse. No system is 100% secure, so please be thoughtful about the information you share.
7. Your Choices & Rights
Access & update — review and edit your information in account settings.
Delete your account — email admin@mypostfolio.com. Some data may be retained for legal purposes.
Content privacy — you control whether saved content is public or private.
Marketing emails — opt out via the unsubscribe link. Service-critical emails (security, verification) cannot be opted out of.
8. Children's Privacy
Our Services are not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us, contact admin@mypostfolio.com and we will delete it.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your jurisdiction (including the United States) where our service providers operate. By using Postfolio you consent to these transfers. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely wherever it is processed.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the website or email. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
